Internship/Apprenticeship Program

White Oak Pastures, a model of the highest standards of animal welfare, holistic farm management, and regenerative agriculture, is now offering a Farm Internship / Apprenticeship Program that is among one of the most comprehensive in the country. The scale, diversity, and vertical integration of this farm makes this unique training experience unlike many traditional farm internship programs.

White Oak Pastures Internship / Apprenticeship program will have two separate courses, both lasting twelve weeks. One course will be dedicated to pastured animal production, while the other will be focused on small scale processing. Order Fulfillment Assistant

As an Order Fulfillment Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining the system implemented in keeping product counted and organized. Your purpose is to keep product flowing through the warehouse, and to confirm order accuracy. You will be required to pick orders and organize them for shipment.

Requirements:

  • Will be required to work standing up.
  • Must be able to pick orders from a list.
  • Must be able to ice down shipments.
  • Must be able to pack orders for shipment.
  • Must be able to perform other tasks as requested.
  • Must be organized.
  • May be required to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.

Processing Plant

This position will work in slaughtering, meat packing, or whole sale establishments performing precision functions involving the preparation of meat. Work may include specialized slaughtering tasks, cutting standard or premium cuts of meat for marketing, making ground beef, or wrapping meats in general.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a cold (35-40 degree) environment for 8–12-hour days.
  • Ability to work weekends when needed.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand on hard surface (concrete) for 8-12 hours a day.
  • Ability to read, understand and demonstrate safety instructions supplied by management.
  • Ability to recognize and report unsafe or hazardous situations.
  • Ability to perform assigned job duties in a timely manner.

Plant Maintenance Technician

The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety and production maintenance systems and processes.

Requirements:

• Ability to lift, pull, push 75 lbs.
• Ability to stand on hard surface (concrete) for 8-12 hours a day.
• Ability to read, understand and demonstrate manufacturer's safety instructions.
• Ability to recognize and report unsafe or hazardous situations.
• Ability to perform assigned job duties in a timely manner.
• Ability to operate/use sharp and automated equipment for the safety of all employees in the work area.
• Ability to keep detailed records of maintenance information for USDA review, to follow up on maintenance requirements during a facility audit.
• Be able to perform emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance around the production schedule.
• Able to perform regular preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and processing facilities.
• Must be able to pass a drug test.

Small Ruminant & Solar Grazing Assistant

As a Small Ruminant & Solar Grazing Assistant you will work individually and with other team members to ensure good health of livestock. Typical tasks include but aren't limited to the requirements below.

Requirements:

  • Set up and take down temporary fencing (poly braid and electric netting)
  • Ensure animals always have clean water and mineral
  • Move animals following a rotational grazing plan
  • Daily health checks and treatment of sick animals as needed
  • Working sheep and goats : ear tagging, trimming hooves, vaccinating, weaning, etc.
  • Assist with lambing and bottle baby care
  • Assist with supplemental feeding (especially hay in winter)
  • Occasionally assist with vegetation control (weed eating, chain sawing, bush hogging and mowing)
  • Basic maintenance of trucks, tractors, Atv and 4 wheeler
  • Must be able to lift 50+lbs
  • Must be self motivated and able to complete tasks without direct supervision
  • Must be able to pass a drug test

Solar Vegetation Management Assistant (Landscaping)

As a Solar Vegetation Management Assistant you will work individually and with team members to maintain vegetation under and around solar equipment using zero turn mowers, weed eaters and chainsaws. You will be responsible for daily maintenance and cleaning of all equipment.

Requirements:

  • Must be dependable and self motivated
  • Must be at least 18yrs old
  • Must be able to work outside in the heat and cold
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Valid drivers license preferred

Experienced Prep Cook / Line Cook (Full-Time or Part-Time)

As a Line Cook, you would operate out of two food trucks that provide three menus: 1) A la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner; 2) Daily lunch line special for 50 guests a day (11am – 2pm); 3) Weekend limited, seasonal dinner menu highlighting farm proteins and seasonal garden produce. You will create a clean, safe work environment to serve a wide range of guests.

An ideal candidate will display integrity and have an appreciation of regenerative agriculture, farm staff, and farm environment, show excitement, appreciation, and the desire to highlight regeneratively raised protein and vegetables and be a team player who works with a purpose.

Requirements:

• Proven cooking experience including experience as a prep cook, and line cook
• Thorough knowledge of various cooking methods and techniques for high quality food ingredients, equipment, and procedures
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Have reliable transportation to and from work
• Be able to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long hours

Garden Assistant Manager

As the Garden Assistant Manager you will manage the garden assistant(s) “garden crew” to care for our on-farm vegetable garden and orchard. You will employ your prior knowledge of market gardening and implement practices to sustainably produce fruits and vegetables and improve soil health.

Typical tasks include but aren't limited to the below.

Requirements:

• Prioritizing and managing garden crew’s daily tasks (seeding, transplanting, weeding, prepping beds, etc.)
• Manage bi-weekly harvesting, washing and packing for delivery to General Store and Farm-to-Table restaurant
• Assisting Garden Manager with seeding plans and purchasing
• Managing record keeping (seeding, amendment, harvest, and sale logs)
• Performing low till bed preparation
• Maintaining vegetables and fruit trees (pruning, tying up, clipping up, etc.)
• Performing weed control – weeding, hoeing, weed eating, mowing -- and managing pests/disease as necessary
• Participate in garden workshops and garden-related tourism events
• Assist with other farm tasks as necessary

The ideal candidate:

• Has a positive attitude and is a great communicator
• Has prior experience working in a market garden using sustainable practices and is passionate about soil health
• Is comfortable managing 1-2 team members and delegating tasks
• Must have a valid driver’s license

Garden Assistant

As a Garden Assistant you will work individually and with the Garden Manager to carefor our on-farm vegetable garden and orchard. You will learn the ins and outs of how togrow vegetables using sustainable practices.

• Harvesting vegetables and fruit
• Washing and packing vegetables
• Performing no-till bed preparation
• Propagating seedlings
•Transplanting vegetables
• Maintaining vegetables (pruning, tying up, clipping up, etc.)

Equine Manager

The Equine Manager will manage all aspects of the equestrian department.

Requirements:

• Minimum five years of experience with horses.
• Able to communicate and work well with the public and field managers.
• Must be willing to effectively market the program in creative ways.
•  Must be knowledgeable of White Oak Pastures and its operations.

Cattle Hand

The Cattle Hand will assist with the ongoing needs below in addition to odds and ends tasks as needed by their supervisor. No prior experience is needed, but will need a willingness to learn and follow directions.

Seasonal with possible full-time employment.

Typical tasks include but are not limited to:

• Daily feeding
• Tractor and equipment operations
• Cattle sorting and handling
• Fencing
• Plumbing

• Understanding that you will be working with live animals daily
