Nothing tastes as good as home-baked sourdough! Join us on the farm Saturday, January 18th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, to learn the basics of creating this staple in any kitchen or homestead. The workshop will cover:
  • What a Starter Culture is
  • How to care for your Starter
  • Health benefits of sourdough
  • All the different variables that affect sourdough
  • What you kneed to make a sourdough loaf
  • How to make a sourdough loaf from start to finish

Participants will start from scratch, get to the point of shaping dough and have it ready to take home with them in a Banneton Basket. Participants will be able to take their prepared dough to bake at home. Everyone will leave the workshop with: A baked loaf of sourdough, dough they shaped in the workshop, Banneton Basket, razor blade for scoring, dehydrated starter, and a how to guide. Tickets also include a farm-fresh lunch and Walking Farm Tour.

If your travel plans include flying, please note that the closest airports to our farm are a bit too far for ride sharing services such as Uber or Lyft. We recommend making arrangements for a rental car to ensure you have adequate transportation.

About your presenters, Justin & Becca Ethridge:

"My wife, Becca, and I lived in Atlanta for twenty years before deciding to leave and move to Morris, GA in 2023. I worked in retail management with 11 years at Starbucks Coffee Co and 6 years at Trader Joe's being the bulk of my career. Becca, who also worked for Starbucks and Trader Joe's, got her first break in baking at a local bakery in Decatur. Here she learned  how to apply her basic knowledge of baking on a larger scale. She also increased her skill set by working with more French pastry and breads." - Justin

Hungry Homesteads mission is: to supply quality, additive free, and affordable baked goods to our community.

Please Note! *Event ticket purchases are final, and cannot be refunded. However, we know life can get in the way! Please contact us if you need to cancel your participation in an event that you previously purchased tickets for. We will be happy to credit your money for a future farm visit, in the form of a credit in the General Store towards food/merchandise, lodging, or towards another event.

Our educational classes and workshops are not geared for small children, unless otherwise specified. As a general rule, a child under ten is not able to participate, due to safety concerns. If you would like to purchase an adult-priced ticket for a teenager, you may do so with the understanding that we usually recommend our educational opportunities for those 18 years old and up.
